January 2023

Happy New Year and welcome back to the first week of term!

Staff Council Business

  • In the October 2023 Solar Flare, we mentioned that Human Resources was rolling out an exit interview process. Update: This is for internal transfers and has been rolled out. Now, when employees leave one school or division for another, they are sent an exit interview.
  • Staff Council welcomes Suggestions from any member of our community. Reminder: Staff Council representatives are volunteers and not policy makers at the University. Please be considerate when making suggestions to improve the employment experience of all staff members.
  • Just have a question? Feel free to submit it in our UTD Staff Council Connection | Questions and Answers channel. There you can access a wide range of employees with their knowledge and experiences on campus. Plus, you might receive an answer sooner than waiting until a general meeting for a discussion.
  • Did you know? Your job benefits include more than your salary. See “an estimate of your projected total rewards for 2023” in your Total Rewards Statement: Navigate to Gemini à Self Service à Total Rewards.

Other Updates

  • Jan Voci, with Institutional Risk and Safety, gave a presentation on the Floor Monitor and Safe Leader Program, which is being revamped.  The purpose of the program is to facilitate the efficient and safe response to a variety of emergencies by encouraging and increasing awareness in the various campus buildings. See the meeting’s recording  for more information.
  • Due to new construction in the middle of campus, Lot G is now closed, and Lot E has fewer parking spots. Relocated accessibility parking is to be available in Lots A & B. This process and experience is frustrating and inconvenient for many. Let’s try and be patient with each other as we go through these growing challenges together.
